Seeking Peace:
Understanding the Philosophy and Work Behind the Israel/UAE Accord

with Rabbi Lustig; UAE Ambassador to the United States Yousef Al Otaiba; H.E. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi; Jason Isaacson, AJC Chief Policy and Political Affairs Officer; and Dr. Elena G. Procario-Foley, Iona College

What does a Middle East peace accord have to do with Yom Kippur? Is this a moment of political reconciliation, or perhaps a moment of spiritual ideological aspiration? On August 13, 2020, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) became only the third country to normalize relations with Israel. The panel will discuss the philosophy and ideology that motivated the UAE to make such a courageous move in the Middle East. Was it motivated by strategic strength or an opportunity for world peace? Join us to explore how the Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies, the Document of Human Fraternity, and the unprecedented UAE “Year of Tolerance” helped lay the foundation not only for this accord but for a new platform of diplomacy – religious diplomacy.
