Back to Basics

Explore why we do what we do as Jews, find the sources for our traditions, and delve into the origins of these ideas with Back to Basics.

With a focus on the holidays, life cycle events, history, theology, Jewish religious movements, Torah laws, the Mishnah, the Talmud, and Kabbalah, we’ll uncover the answers to the “why” behind Judaism. Together, we’ll look deeper and discover answers to questions we might never have thought to ask.

For Winter 2023, Back to Basics will be held at the following times:

Tuesdays at 7:00 pm
Wednesdays at 10:00 am

Classes start the week of January 23 and will run through March 27.

“I am currently enrolled in Gerdy Trachtman’s Back to Basics Class for the second time, because there is so much to learn, and there is no better teacher than Gerdy. Gerdy’s passion for teaching and Judaism is contagious and has inspired me to want to learn everything about Judaism.

I find myself feeling so much more connected to my heritage, Israel, Judaism, and Washington Hebrew Congregation. I can’t rave enough about the class!!”
