WHC Gen X’ers — We invite you to shed the busyness, stress, and noise of everyday life at this soothing and transformative Shabbat experience with Rabbi Shankman and Sarah Schain, founder of SomoBreathe.

On this Friday evening, we’ll step away from traditional text study and connect to Shabbat spiritually through a sound bath – a deeply immersive auditory experience aimed at relaxation and inner exploration.

After the experience, stay to catch up and connect over a light Mediterranean dinner and a glass of wine.

What is a sound bath?

A sound bath is a guided acoustic meditation that uses various instruments – singing bowls, gongs, chimes, drums, and sometimes even the human voice – to create a symphony of sound that helps calm the mind, release tension, and induce a state of deep relaxation.

How should I prepare?

Dress comfortably, like you would for a yoga class. Bring a yoga mat so you can lie down (we’ll also have chairs if you prefer to sit) and any items that will help you relax and feel comfortable, like an eye mask, a pillow, or a blanket (some people enjoy the feel of a weighted blanket).

Will there be a Shabbat service at Temple that night? Does this replace the monthly Shabbat service at the Julia Bindeman Suburban Center?

No. This is an additional event. We will still have Shabbat@WHC at Temple on Friday, March 8. We will also hold our monthly Shabbat@WHC – JBSC service on Friday, March 29 at the Julia Bindeman Suburban Center.

Anything else?

Advance registration is required, and a separate registration is needed for each participant. Because of the small, personalized nature of this program, we can accommodate up to 50 people, and registration is currently open to Temple members only. Should we reach capacity, we will gladly start a waitlist.
