For children who turn four by September 1

We have developed an innovative Pre-K curriculum that offers kindergarten readiness with an emphasis on interactive, hands-on learning opportunities.

About the Pre-K Curriculum

Pre-K students have one-on-one learning opportunities, small group learning experiences, and social/play interactions with other Pre-K classes. Handwriting Without Tears materials, reading readiness experiences, math and science exploration, exciting field trips, and regular visits to our media center all prepare the children, in a developmentally appropriate manner, for their next steps in school. Teachers focus on building the social-emotional skills – including independence, self-regulation, and collaboration with peers – that are the hallmarks of a successful school experience, in preschool, kindergarten, and beyond.

As four-year-olds delve deeper into their understanding of the world, we help them learn about topics that fascinate them and further their thinking. In the classrooms, on the playground, and in our STEM room, teachers ask reflective questions, encouraging the children to take time to observe their surroundings and formulate their own ideas. Our investigations incorporate literacy activities, art, math, science concepts, and imaginative play.

All children at the RJWECC have weekly music and movement classes with our specialists, and daily opportunities to play outside on our expansive grounds and new, age-appropriate playgrounds. Our teachers integrate the study of Jewish holidays and culture into all aspects of the school day.

Children eat lunch – either brought from home or purchased through our hot lunch program – with their classmates. The “core” Pre-K day ends at 2:00 pm, but we offer a variety of day-extending options to meet the needs of our families and their child’s interests.

2019-2020 Pre-K Schedule and Options

We have two programs — "Core" and "PLUS" — both meet five days/week. Each Pre-K class includes both Core and PLUS students who spend the mornings together, participating in the same “core” curriculum experiences.
