For over 36 years, Rabbi M. Bruce Lustig has been a focal part of the Washington Hebrew community. With his announcement that he was stepping down from the pulpit and his transition to Rabbi Emeritus on July 1, the time has come to celebrate his many achievements and work to make WHC the place it is today.
The weekend of October 14 we will host a pair of events recognizing everything he has meant to WHC and the entire community.
Friday, October 14, 6:00 pm at Temple Rabbi Lustig has made strong interfaith relations a hallmark of his leadership and we will gather for a special Sukkot Interfaith Dialogue Shabbat, highlighted by tributes from many of the faith leaders and Washington Hebrew members whose lives he touched so deeply.
A cocktail reception follows the service.
A livestream is also available for those who cannot join us in person.
Sunday, October 16, 10 am at Julia Bindeman Suburban Center
10:00 – 10:30 am: Simchat Torah– (inside at JBSC) – Rabbi Lustig, along with all of our clergy will lead a joyous and uplifting Simchat Torah celebration as we finish reading the Torah and begin to read it all over again.
10:30 AM – 12:00 pm: The festivities continue outside in the parking lot with sweet treats, hot drinks, carnival-style games and activities for the kids, a photo booth, and a special visit from the Washington Nationals Screech! We will honor the social justice legacy of Rabbi Lustig with a hands-on mitzvah project with Undies for Everyone and much more!
