A Thank You from Kibbutz Nahal Oz

The following letter was shared with the congregation on Friday, November 17 during Shabbat@WHC.

To our friends at Washington Hebrew Congregation,

We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generous support of our community, as we begin the hard work of returning home and rebuilding Kibbutz Nahal Oz. Your congregation’s decision to take part in this effort and lend us a hand at our time of need will never be forgotten by the members of our community.

On October 7, 2023, our kibbutz was supposed to celebrate 70 years since its foundation in 1953. A large party was planned at the pool, with hundreds of guests from our community and all over Israel. Unfortunately, what was supposed to be a day of celebration turned out to be the worst day in our community’s history. But thanks to your help and determination, we will return, rebuild, and find the strength to celebrate once again.

Nahal Oz has been partnering for years with the Reform Movement in Israel, and several members have held Reform weddings in the kibbutz in recent years. Your support will only further strengthen our ties with the movement and with all our brothers and sisters in the diaspora.

With love and gratitude,

Amir Tibon and friends in Kibbutz Nahal Oz
