The Sacred Calling: Raising Our Voices in Story & Song

Nearly 150 people responded to the calling of “The Sacred Calling: Raising Our Voices in Story & Song” and came to the Julia Bindeman Suburban Center to celebrate the impact female clergy have made in just over 40 years.

The reflections Rabbi Shankman and her peers shared were moving, funny, and inspiring. Woven between them was a program of songs adapted from the stories of biblical women. It highlighted not just the strength of our female forebears, but also beautifully showcased the vocal gifts of Cantor Bortnick and her peers.

This event was inspired by the Central Conference of American Rabbis’ new book, The Sacred Calling: Four Decades of Women in the Rabbinate, which features a personal reflection from Rabbi Shankman. Click here to learn more about the book.
