Tot Shabbat

Our rabbis and song leaders make going to Friday night services a fun, fulfilling event for families with young children (or grandchildren).

Held monthly at Temple and the Julia Bindeman Suburban Center, these evenings begin with an engaging, interactive Tot Shabbat service, which lasts about a half hour and teaches Jewish prayers, traditions, and rituals through songs, stories, and art projects.

A family-style and family-friendly Shabbat dinner follows the service. It is a lovely way to enhance the feeling of community and get to know new friends. Co-sponsored by the Rabbi Joseph Weinberg or Edlavitch-Tyser ECC Parents Committee and Washington Hebrew Congregation, there is no charge for the dinner, but we do ask that you pre-register so we can plan appropriately.

Wake-Up Tot Shabbat

Rise and shine, and come spend Shabbat morning with WHC!

Date: Saturday, April 27
Time: 10:00 am
Location: WHC's Julia Bindeman Suburban Center (11810 Falls Rd., Potomac, MD 20854)

Join us for a fun, musical, hands-on Shabbat morning experience perfect for young kids and their parents (or grandparents).

We'll begin with a Tot Shabbat service led by Washington Hebrew clergy and amazing Jewish folk-rock musicians Dan Nichols and Alan Goodis.

Children will create (with grown-up assistance) their own "Shabbat Box" - a personalized kit with everything your family needs to celebrate Shabbat in your own home.

We'll end with a kid-friendly lunch.*

Cost: $10 per child (parents are free!), includes a complete Shabbat Box, snacks, coffee bar for adults, and a kid-friendly lunch.

*We are a nut-free, kosher-style building. As a Reform synagogue, Washington Hebrew Congregation observes seven days of Passover, ending at sundown on Friday, April 26. If you and your family will be observing an eighth day of Passover and would like kosher for Passover lunch and snacks, please let us know on your registration form.

PJ Library of Greater Washington is a partner in this program.
