Dan has been a member of the Congregation for more than 30 years. He has served on the board of directors since 2015 and on the Executive Committee as assistant treasurer since 2017. He is also a member of the Communications and the Community Issues and Social Action Committees.
Dan is the former president of MacNeil/Lehrer Productions, which produced the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer on PBS, and is a former executive producer at NewsHour Productions, LLC, where he created a weekly online news program for middle school students. Dan currently serves as executive director of By the People Productions, a civic journalism and engagement project, which produced “America in One Room,” a historic gathering of 500 American voters for a nonpartisan discussion about the significant issues of the 2020 presidential election. Dan is a graduate of New York University and earned graduate degrees in journalism from Columbia University.
Dan’s wife, Leslie Maitland, also served as an officer of the Congregation and currently chairs the Amram Scholar Series. They are the proud parents of two children, Zachary and Ariel, son-in-law Ari Savitzky, and grandchildren Lyra Jane, Andy Rose, and “she-who-will-be-named” due in May.
