WHECTY

The best way to have fun, make friends, and gain leadership experience during your high school years!

We invite and encourage all 9th - 12th graders to become WHECTY members and take part in the wide assortment of programs and opportunities we offer. WHECTY has never been better, and now is the time for you to be part of the amazing memories.

WHECTY is part of NFTY-MAR, the North American Federation of Temple Youth - Mid-Atlantic Region, and we participate in conventions throughout the year that bring together hundreds of teens from around our region.

WHECTY Kabbalat Shabbat, Dinner & A Movie

Friday, October 16 6-9pm
OUTSIDE at JBSC

WHECTY is pleased to be able to offer this test run of a socially distant, in-person program on Friday, October 16 from 6-9 p.m. outside at the Julia Bindeman Suburban Center. Students in grades 8-12 are invited to a WHECTY Shabbat Experience followed by dinner (optional) and a movie. Registration will be limited to ensure proper social distancing.

This is our Congregation’s first trial run back into in-person programming so we want to let you know what we are doing to keep everyone safe.  All students will have their temperature taken upon arrival and be asked to confirm that they have no symptoms. Masks will be required at all times except when eating. Students must register in advance so we know who and how many people will attend. When students arrive, they will be given a designated area in which to sit, and must bring their own lawn chairs, blanket, etc. Seating areas will be marked off and provide ample room for social distancing. Only students who live together (siblings, for example) will be able to share a seating area. For students who choose to order dinner, adult staff will bring their food to their seating area so that students are not gathering to get food. All food will be individually prepared and packaged – there will be no communal food. Any beverages served will be individual bottles or cans. All guidelines in terms of masks and social distancing will be strictly enforced. Failure to adhere to these health and safety protocols will result in students being asked to leave the program. If you have any questions or concerns about any of these measures, please contact Ira Miller.

For students who register for the dinner option (Chipotle), you will receive an email after registration with information on how to order your food. Registration is due by October 14. This program is weather permitting. If we have to cancel the program because of the weather all participants will receive a full refund. In addition, health and safety are our highest priority and we continue to closely monitor local and regional COVID-19 numbers. If temple leadership, at any time, deems it unsafe to hold this program due to COVID-19, the program will be canceled and all participants will receive a full refund.

Finally, we know that every family has its own risk factors and comfort level with various activities during this global pandemic. While some families may be very comfortable with our plans some will also not be and we totally respect and understand that. No student will be allowed to attend this program without parental permission. We ask our teens to be understanding that parents are doing everything they can to keep their family healthy and safe and what might be ok for another family may not be for yours. If you are unable to attend we will miss you and are glad you are home with your family and safe. We look forward to a time when it is safe for all of us to be together in person!
