March for Our Lives

On Saturday, March 24, kids, teens, parents, and Jewish community members from across the country will come to Washington, D.C. to demand an end to gun violence and mass shootings in schools.

"Not one more. We cannot allow one more child to be shot at school. We cannot allow one more teacher to make a choice to jump in front of a firing assault rifle to save the lives of students. We cannot allow one more family to wait for a call or text that never comes."
- March for Our Lives Mission Statement

In response to this demand for change, we are sponsoring a day of social action that begins at Temple on Friday, March 23 at 8:00 pm with a community-wide program, "Shabbat for Our Lives: A Shabbat Service, Vigil, and Social Justice Song Session."

Washington Hebrew Congregation is also honored to welcome and host youth groups and their chaperones as they arrive in our city to make their voices heard on this critical issue.

Youth groups and their chaperones are invited to spend the night at WHC on Friday, March 23. Please contact Ira Miller, WHC's Director of Informal Education, at or 301-354-3209, for more information on how to RSVP for these specific events.

March 23: Shabbat for Our Lives

A Shabbat Service, Vigil, and Social Justice Song Session

Before we march, we will come together on Friday, March 23 to reflect on the impact the epidemic of gun violence has had on our lives. In a special Shabbat service with participation from teens around the country, we will raise our collective voices and prepare for action. This service has been designed and planned by teens and will focus on how the epidemic of gun violence has impacted their lives.

Evening Activities

  • 7:00 pm: Dinner (This meal is for teen groups registered with Washington Hebrew Congregation. Food will be provided on an ongoing basis as groups arrive at WHC)
  • 8:00 pm: Shabbat service
  • 9:00 pm: Social justice song session and sign making
