Washington Hebrew Congregation has grown alongside Washington, D.C., building a vibrant home for Jewish life through moments of profound change — in our world and in the Jewish community.
As we approach our 175th anniversary, Washington Hebrew: The Place My Heart Loves will dive into our remarkable history, from our founding by an Act of Congress to today. Rabbi Sue Shankman will guide us through our extensive archives, sharing the documents that built our Congregation and established Washington Hebrew as a leading Reform congregation.
Reflect on the moments that created a thriving Jewish community in our nation’s capital — the people, decisions, and turning points that shaped who we are. Together, we’ll explore this history and consider what it means for our future, as we look toward the milestone ahead.
