Israelis head to the polls this October, and few moments have felt more consequential. Washington Hebrew is honored to welcome former journalist Gadeer Kamal-Mreeh for this timely conversation. Kamal-Mreeh is a woman of many firsts: the first Druze woman to anchor a Hebrew-language news program, serve in the Knesset, and act as an Israeli liaison to the Washington, D.C. Jewish community. She will guide us through the parties, personalities, and stakes shaping Israel’s future.

About Gadeer Kamal-Mreeh

Gadeer Kamal-Mreeh was the first non-Jewish anchorwoman to broadcast the main evening news in Hebrew and Arabic in Israel. In April 2019, she was elected to the Knesset as a member of the Blue and White party, making history as the first Druze woman to become a Member of the Knesset, where she was re-elected twice. In 2021, she was appointed by Mr. Isaac Herzog, then the chairman of the “Jewish Agency for Israel,” today the President of the state of Israel, to serve as the first non-Jewish Senior Envoy of the Jewish Agency for Israel to Washington, D.C.

During her political tenures, she founded and chaired the Caucus for Planning, Zoning, and Industrial Areas and the Caucus for the Advancement of Druze Women. She was a member of the Interior and Environment Committee, the Advancement of Women’s Status and Gender Equality Committee, and the special committee for fighting crime within the Arab sector. Kamal Mreeh co-chaired the Israel-Germany Parliamentary Friendship Group and chaired the Israel-Switzerland Parliamentary Friendship Group.

In 2024, Gadeer founded GKM Global Consulting LLC in Washington, D.C., a boutique global consulting firm specializing in speaking engagements, strategic communications, and public diplomacy initiatives. The firm focuses on advancing peacebuilding and strengthening relations between Jewish and Arab communities across Israel, the Middle East, and the United States, in collaboration with leading U.S. think tanks and prominent global Jewish organizations.

Gadeer is an alumna of the “Munich Young Leaders” Program. In 2020, the distinguished Israeli daily business newspaper, “Calcalist,” ranked her in the 63rd position among the 100 most influential Israeli figures of the year. In 2021, she was selected by the “World Economic Forum” as a “Young Global Leader”. The same year, Gadeer was awarded the “Quality Government Knight” for the Legislative Branch by “The Movement for Quality Government in Israel.”
In 2026, Gadeer was selected as a member of the Young Arab Leaders (YAL) network- a distinguished regional platform under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Young Arab Leaders brings together high-impact professionals and changemakers from across the Arab world to advance leadership, mentorship, innovation, and regional growth.

Kamal-Mreeh holds a diploma from  Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education in Global Leadership and Public Policy for the 21st Century, a degree with honors in Medical Imaging and Social Sciences from Bar-Ilan University, and a master’s degree with honors in International Relations from Haifa University, specializing in negotiation and decision-making in international relations.
