THE GARDEN OF REMEMBRANCE 25th ANNUAL
High Holy Days Community Memorial Services

Rabbi Susan Shankman and Cantor Susan Bortnick will lead the Garden of Remembrance (Gan Zikaron) Annual Community Memorial Service. They will co-officiate with other community clergy at the 25th annual service at Clarksburg, Maryland, nonprofit memorial park.

Annual visits to the graves of loved ones during the High Holy Day season are an ancient Jewish custom. The Garden of Remembrance invites families of those resting at Gan Zikaron to honor their loved ones and be inspired for the new year by rabbis and cantors from our thirty-one Partner Congregations.

Families are invited to provide the names of loved ones for the clergy to honor and recite at the service during the memorial prayers. Names may be submitted on the Garden of Remembrance website (gardenofremembrance.org) or by emailing info@gardenofremembrance.org by September 25, 2025.

In addition to the 10:00 am Memorial Service, there is also a 2:00 pm community memorial service at the memorial park led by community clergy. Hank Levine, President of the Garden of Remembrance will welcome families at the 10:00 am service.

Families unable to attend in person may watch the Memorial Service online through the Garden of Remembrance website (gardenofremembrance.org). The Garden of Remembrance grounds will be open from 9:00 am through 4:00 pm on September 28th for families and community clergy to visit individual gravesites and recite personal prayers.
