A New Director for the E-T ECC

Washington Hebrew Congregation is pleased to announce that Miryam Buchler will be the new Director of the Edlavitch-Tyser Early Childhood Center beginning July 15, 2019, for the start of our 2019-2020 academic year. Miryam brings to this position exceptional experience as an early childhood director and educator at the Mandel Jewish Community Center (Mandel JCC) in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. We look forward to her leadership and energy in furthering the innovative educational pedagogy that has distinguished the E-T ECC.

Miryam completed a rigorous interview process with the ECC Task Force, WHC’s senior staff, all clergy, and groups of teachers and parents. We benefited from the participation and thoughtfulness of each of these valued constituencies within the ECC and WHC communities. A combination of good timing and hard work by many has brought Miryam to us at this very important moment. We invite our parents and staff to meet with Miryam prior to her arrival in July, and we will be providing additional details about those opportunities soon.

Originally from Morocco and fluent in French and Hebrew, Miryam earned a master’s degree in General and Special Early Childhood Education from Touro College (NY), and a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Yeshiva University, Stern College (NY). She brings robust experience, collaborative energy, enthusiasm, and exemplary professionalism to early childhood education.

After her career as a behavioral therapist supporting parents in managing behavioral challenges, Miryam transitioned into an early childhood educator role where her work included collaboration with parents, therapists, teachers, and facilitators to develop appropriate learning opportunities for children with a range of developmental abilities. Miryam eventually rose to become Early Childhood Assistant Director and then Early Childhood Director at the Mandel JCC.

Miryam completed the prestigious Jewish Community Center Association of North America’s Sheva Center Leadership Institute for Early Childhood Professionals. This national leadership development institute is a three-year program that enhances the skills of exceptional early childhood staff interested in increased responsibilities and leadership roles in early care and education.

We are so pleased to welcome Miryam, her husband Nir, and children Emma (8) and Abigail (5), to Washington in the coming months. Outside of her professional work and enjoying time with her family, Miryam loves scenic bike rides, visiting new places, and playing board games. Please join us in welcoming Miryam and her family to Washington Hebrew Congregation.
