Robert D. Bindeman

     Rob Bindeman is a “homegrown product” of the Congregation, celebrating his Bar Mitzvah, confirmation, and wedding with Washington Hebrew. Recently, Rob and his wife Betsy chaired the inaugural 2239 Israel Trip. Rob is the third generation of the Bindeman Family to serve on the Temple Board.
     Rob is President of Landmark Realty, Inc., a development and management company of residential properties throughout the Metropolitan Area. He is on the Board of Directors of the Jewish Foundation for Group Homes and serves on the Advisory Board of Capital Bank and the YouthBuild Charter School. Prior to entering the real estate business, Rob was a sports marketing representative, representing NFL stars Dan Marino, Jason Taylor, and Gus Frerotte. He is a graduate of Tulane University and has an MBA from the University of Miami Frishman School of Business.

     
 

Joan G. Churchill

     Joan Churchill, a native of Washington DC, is a second generation WHC member. She is the daughter of social activists, Leo and Elizabeth Goodman, for whom the WHC Goodman Public Issues Fund is named. Since joining WHC in1972, she has served on the Public Issues, Religious School and Youth Committees. She is currently serving on the Board, and on the Civic Issues/Social Action Committee. She served as a Delegate to the 2007 URJ Biennial.
     A graduate of the Michigan Law School, she served close to 25 years as a Judge on the U.S. Immigration Court, retiring in 2005. She is currently engaged in arbitration. In the wider community, she is serving as Secretary of the National Association of Women Judges, as Secretary/Treasurer of the homeowners association in her beach community, and on the Council of the Lawyers’ Committee for the Shakespeare Theatre. When her children were young, she was active with the Scouts and PTA.
     Judge Churchill and her husband Anthony, a World Bank retiree, are the parents of 7 children, and have 5 grandchildren. Their children have celebrated b’nai mitzvah, confirmations and weddings at WHC. She celebrated her own bat mitzvah with the WHC Adult B’nai Mitzvah class of 1999

     
 

James (Jim) A. Klein

     Jim Klein and his family have been members of the Congregation since 1994. A native of Buffalo, N.Y., Jim’s belief in the triumph of hope over experience is evidenced by his continued dedication to the Buffalo Bills despite the team’s inability to win a Super bowl! This dedication is thoughtfully indulged by his wife, Lynn, a former teacher at Washington Hebrew’s Early Childhood Center, and their daughters, Jennifer and Lexi.
     Jim graduated form Tufts University and George Washington University Law School. In addition to his involvement with the Congregation, Jim takes pleasure in his service on the boards of directors of Covenant House Washington, Americans for Generational Equity and American Friends of the Anne Frank House.
     In his professional life, Jim is President of the American Benefits Council which represents principally 500 companies on health and retirement policy.

     
  Dorothy C. Kornhauser

     Dorothy Cooper Kornhauser, a fourth-generation member of the Congregation, has served on the Archives Committee and has participated in every Mitzvah Day since its inception. Beginning alongside her grandmother, Rosie Wender, at the Stage Door Canteen during WWII, her commitment to volunteerism was born and is evident throughout the Washington community. In the Women’s Auxiliary of the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington, she has served as Financial Secretary, Board Member, Chairman and Co-Chairman of the Starlight Ball, Co-Chairman of Aunt Minnie’s Luncheon, honorary Board Member, President of the Women’s Auxiliary, and was the recipient of the Aunt Minnie Goldsmith Award for community service. Mrs. Kornhauser cooked for various soup kitchens such as So Others May Eat (SOME) and Shepherd’s Table. She was also co-founder of an organization called Cancer League for Research that raised money for cancer research. She has been an active member of a local Lion’s Club chapter since 1999.
     She attended Syracuse University and the University of Maryland.
     Dorothy was married to Burt Cooper for 41 years and has three children, Brent, Wendy and Andrew. Burt died in 1993. She has been married to Lou Kornhauser for nine years and together they have an extended family that includes eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

     
 

Richard I. Lane

     Richard Lane is a lifelong member of Washington Hebrew Congregation, and has also been active in many local Jewish organizations. Rich graduated from B-CC High School and then Tulane University before returning to Washington, DC. After several years in the commercial real estate industry, he cofounded West, Lane & Schlager, a commercial real estate advisory and brokerage in 1996. In 2002, he also co-founded Rock Creek Property Group, a commercial real estate investment company.
     Rich and his wife, Jill, live in Bethesda, MD and have two daughters, Ella and Nicole.

     
 

Todd E. Perkins, M.D.

     Todd Perkins, MD is a second generation member of the Congregation. He attended the religious school from second grade consecration through Confirmation. He and his wife, Megan, have been active in the synagogue since returning to Washington, DC in 2002. Currently, they are the co-chairs of the Couples Club.
     After attending Tulane University, Todd received his medical degree from Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, and completed his dermatology residency training at Rush Medical Center in Chicago. His dermatology practice is located in the Farragut neighborhood of Washington, DC. In addition, Todd has served on the teaching faculty of the Department of Dermatology of the Washington Hospital Center since returning to DC. He also served on the Board of the Montgomery County Medical Society for one year until moving his practice full time into Washington, DC.
     Todd and Megan have two children, Kayla and Ella.
     Megan is an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Montgomery College and operates a consulting business specializing in market research for non-profit organizations and professional associations.

     
 

Ivan “Van” Sabel

Ivan Sabel has been a member of the Congregation since 1978 and currently serves on the Board. In the wider community, Mr. Sabel is the Chairman of the Board at Hanger Orthopedic Group, Inc., a company providing prosthetic and orthotic rehabilitation in 620 locations throughout the United States. He also serves on the Boards of Beverly Enterprises, a company engaged in elder care services throughout the U.S., the American Physicians’ Fellowship for Medicine in Israel, a foundation providing American medical personnel to the State of Israel during times of disaster and a member of the American Board for the University of Haifa in Israel.
     Mr. Sabel is a graduate of New York University where he earned a B.S. in Prosthetics and Orthotics.
     He and his wife, Sandi, an interior designer and a life-long member of WHC, have four children, Caroline, Amy, Jocelyn and David.

     
 

Marvin J. Spivak

     Marvin Spivak, a member of the congregation for more than 20 years, is currently serving on the Board of Directors. He is also chairman of the Membership Committee, a co-chairman of the Temple Administration Committee and was vice chairman of the committee to search for a new Executive Director.
     After receiving a B.S. in electronics from The George Washington University (GWU), Mr. Spivak was a patent examiner for the computer division of the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. He subsequently attended law school at GWU where he received a JD degree with honors. Mr. Spivak co-founded the intellectual property law firm of Oblon, Spivak, McClelland, Maier & Neustadt, P.C., where he is currently a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors.
     He and his wife Jeanne, a former registered nurse and Vice President of Sisterhood, have six children and six grandchildren, Jacob, Sarah, Ella, Jordana, Annabelle and Lyla.

     
 

Mindy A. Strelitz

     Mindy Strelitz, a member of the congregation since 1999, has been an active leader in the Washington, DC community for over a decade. She is a Vice-President of the DCJCC Board of Directors and has served as co-chair of fundraising for the past ten years. She is currently serving on the board of the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington and successfully cochaired Super Sunday for the past two years. She is also a member of the Washington Club of AIPAC. A native of Norfolk, Virginia, Ms. Strelitz received her B.A. from the University of Virginia. Mindy and her husband, Andy Cornblatt, an Associate Vice-President of Georgetown University, have two children, Johannah and Nathan.
