Community Issues & Social Action
A Committee Dedicated to Social
Action &
Interfaith Issues
The CI/SA
Committee leads the congregation’s commitment to tikkun olam, to
making the world better by giving back to the community. We involve
members of the congregation in social action and interfaith issues critical
to Washington Hebrew and to our larger community. Major annual
events are Freedom Seder; the Martin Luther King Shabbat dinner and
service; and Martin Luther King Holiday Workday, a day of community
service and fellowship with friends from area churches. We will
continue the interfaith dialogue and learning program with members
of the Muslim and Christian communities and will sponsor other
special interfaith events. The Second Sunday and Haven cooking
projects, through which congregation members provide meals for a
shelter in Montgomery County and a transitional home in DC, will
continue to grow. Activities to aid the needy are also on our
agenda, as are responses to international crises, such as Darfur and
the tsunami. The CI & SA committee meets monthly (on the second
Monday of the month) to discuss social action issues and to plan the
program of projects and events that address these issues. The
committee comprises members of all ages, who share an interest in tikkun olam. To learn more about this diverse and vibrant committee,
