:: Carrie Simon House

Providing a Home for Women & Children in Need

For nearly two decades, Carrie Simon House (CSH) has provided a safe and supportive home for homeless young women and their babies. Join our committee or support CSH in other ways and help us provide a new start for these fragile, young families.

CSH gives young mothers between the ages of 18 and 25 a stable place to live while they conclude their schooling or job training and helps these women to prepare for independent and productive lives. Committee members act as mentors to the residents, plan cultural outings, work on fundraising, manage house maintenance, supervise donations to the house, and much more. In recent years, CSH has helped residents become licensed to drive, begin college, pass the G.E.D. exam, and complete job training. Former residents have gone on to work for the federal government, graduate from college, and live independently. In addition, over the past two years, through the generous support of several Temple members and our wonderful Sisterhood, we have been able to make many much-needed repairs and improvements to the facility.

Temple members can support CSH through a cash donation, by buying SCRIP, or by donating their time or select, gently-used items. We are specifically looking for volunteers to provide financial literacy training to residents or to organize occasional outings for the women and children.

CSH Committee welcomes new members. Meetings take place on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 pm at Temple and are typically followed by a group dinner at a nearby restaurant. If you plan to attend a meeting for the first time, please contact Nell Shapiro or Carolyne Ojwang as meetings are occasionally rescheduled. Please join us if you’re interested in becoming involved in this rewarding (and fun!) committee.
