:: Caring Committee

Reaching out to our Temple Community

WHC’s Caring Committee is dedicated to reaching out to our Temple community, especially during times of sickness or special need, including

  • Caring CommitteeCoordinating rides to Temple events and medical appointments,
  • Calling and/or visiting those who are temporarily or permanently home-bound,
  • Dropping off meals and lending a hand to members who need help with shopping,
  • Baking and delivering "caring kugels" for families sitting shiva.

We also extend our hand to congregants celebrating life cycle events. We write personal notes of congratulations to new parents as well as notes of condolence after a recent death and on the first yahrtzeit to those who have lost a loved one. In addition, we work with other WHC committees on programs that can help both our members and the community at large. The Caring Committee is a place where we hope all Temple members can comfortably turn when they need a helping hand for any reason.

Communicate with us. If you or another Temple member you know needs some extra support or is celebrating a special event, please let us know. You can email us at our confidential, clergy-read email, caringcommittee@whctemple.org or you can call Cantor Bortnick directly, 202-895-6353. All information will be held in strict confidence, but without your help, we may never know that someone is in need.

Become part of our volunteer network. As a member of our volunteer network, you’ll be on the list of people notified when help is needed. Then, you can determine if you’re able to assist in that situation. Add your name to the network list by using the contact information below.

We hope you’ll take advantage of this opportunity to help and to be helped by Temple members who truly care.
