King of Morocco Bestows Medal to Three Religious Leaders for Outstanding Interfaith Work

In recognition of his stalwart leadership on interfaith cooperation, tolerance, and peace, Rabbi Lustig was honored by the Kingdom of Morocco with the medal of Commander of Wissam Alaouite.

Nearly 200 Moroccan and American officials, including members of Congress, were present for this event which celebrated the recently completed rehabilitation of 167 Jewish cemeteries. The “Houses of Life” project was launched in 2010 under King Mohammed VI as a testimony to Morocco’s diversity, and to recognize the Jewish community as “one of the time-honored components of our national identity.”

Along with Rabbi Lustig, Imam Talib Shareef of Masjid Muhammad and Theodore Cardinal McCarrick, Archbishop Emeritus of Washington, D.C. were also honored.
