Fun and Friendship with The Motzi Fellowship

Last week, our five hardworking Motzi Fellows learned about farming, the environment, poverty, and hunger during an intensive hands-on week of tikkun olam.

The Motzi Fellowship is a one-week summer program open to all rising 8th – 12th graders. During the day, our teens worked on One Acre Farm and learned how food goes from farm to table. Despite laboring under the hot summer sun, the Fellows kept smiles on their faces forming new friendships as they planted and harvested vegetables.

In the evenings, the Fellows learned about how hunger and food issues affect our local community. Then, they took part in activities to make a difference including packaging meals with the WHC Hunger Project and delivering food to partner agencies in the community.

Working together, the Fellows harvested 62.5 pounds of broccoli and 172.5 pounds of radishes for Manna Food Center as well as 99.5 pounds of broccoli, 35 pounds of kale, and 17 pounds of radishes for Martha’s Table. They also packed 1,320 meals for the WHC Hunger Project, made 36 containers of food (32 ounces each) for Martha’s Table, and put together 13 bagged meals for A Wider Circle.
