Preserving Washington Hebrew Congregation's History

Washington Hebrew was founded in 1852 by 21 German Jews. Granted a charter in 1856 by the United States Congress, the Temple has always played a leading role in the history of Jewish life in the District as well as in the nation. The members of the WHC Archives Committee are dedicated to gathering, cataloging and preserving Washington Hebrew Congregation’s life story so that the tradition of Washington Hebrew can be passed down from generation to generation.
