Shabbat Dinner with David & Debbie Astrove

We invite you to sign up to join a small group of Temple members for a Shabbat dinner at the home of WHC's president, David Astrove, and his wife, Debbie.

Good Food. Good People. Good Conversation.

The Astroves are hosting "Dinner with David and Debbie" one Friday each month from September through June. With just 12 people around their table, the Astroves' Shabbat dinners are a casual way for a few WHC members to get to know one another.

You know you have membership at Washington Hebrew Congregation in common. Here, you can discover what else connects you, share what you find meaningful in Temple life, and discuss what would make your WHC experience more fulfilling. Expect to discover commonalities you didn’t know existed, laugh, and feel really good that you made this evening the start of your weekend.

There's no cost to participate, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Take a look at the dates below, and sign up today! You will receive an email about a month before your dinner to confirm your registration and another a week before the dinner with the address and additional details.

Unless otherwise indicated, the Shabbat dinners begin at 7:00 pm at the Astroves' home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions? We have some answers …

Do I have to be a member of Washington Hebrew Congregation to participate?

The dinners are open to WHC members, our ECC families, and 2239 Young Professionals community.

How much does this cost?

It’s free!

I’m not very active at Temple. Are these dinners just for people who are really involved?

No! In fact, we are glad you are interested in signing up. These dinners are a great way to get to know others at WHC in a relaxed, small group environment.

So, are these dinners primarily for new or less involved members?

Nope. The Astroves' monthly dinner table is a wonderful mix of longtime and new members, WHC staff, teachers, and ECC parents (who may not be Temple members). Some guests are actively involved and have held leadership positions and others simply attend High Holy Day services. All adults are welcome. You might discover that the person sitting next to you was your college professor, grew up in a town next to yours, or has the same taste in music. We encourage you to sign up and find out.

I completed a registration form, now what?

About a month before the dinner, you will receive an email confirming your registration. In rare cases, the email might come sooner to inform you that the dinner is at capacity and give you the option to be added to our waitlist or register for a different dinner. About one week before your confirmed dinner, you will receive a second email with the address and additional details.

I registered, but now I have a conflict and cannot attend.

This happens. Please send an email to President@whctemple.org as soon as possible to let us know. We will remove you from the list of attendees, and you can register for another date if you wish.

I have little kids and getting a babysitter for a Friday evening is difficult. May I bring my family?

Dinners at the Astroves' home are just for adults, but David and Debbie will host a special dinner just for our families with young children in concert with one of our Tot Shabbat services. We will announce the date and location soon and will share information and registration links through the Journal, Life@WHC enewsletter, and our Early Childhood Centers.
